Today's exchange between April Ryan (American Urban Radio reporter) and the White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs made the headlines.
I am not going to comment on what April Ryan's question was about. Frankly, I don't care. Do you?
What the White House press conference made me think about is this: Can reporters inquire about anything they feel like? If so, can they demand an answer from the press secretary? If the White House's representative refuses to answer, can they just say something like: “Don't play with me.”?
I should first explain that I am not a particular fan of the current White House residents and frequent guests, but I still find April Ryan of American Urban Radio's behavior quite disturbing. And as much as I am not a fan of Robert Gibbs I find his reaction far from inappropriate as some have reported.
